How to Get Rid of Birds in Trees

Birds in trees can be a problem. They often build their nests in trees, eat fruits from trees, and poop on the cars and people below. Thankfully, there are a few ways for you to get rid of birds in trees.

The first way to get rid of birds in trees is bird netting. This method is more commonly used in farming and agriculture situations than for pest neighborhood birds, which will be covered after this. Bird netting excludes bird entirely from entering into the tree. Farmers often use bird netting to block birds from eating fruit from the trees.

Netting can be applied in a couple of different ways. It can be draped over the tree itself. This will block birds from going onto the tree, but they can still access the tree through the netting. The other option is building a frame around the tree. Bird netting can then be draped over the frame to exclude birds from accessing the tree entirely.

The next option for getting rid of birds in trees is bird spikes. Bird spikes can be attached to the branches of trees that birds are perching on to prevent them from being able to perch. Bird spikes provide a physical barrier that stops birds from being able to access the tree. Spikes are blunted and do not actually hurt birds; they just block them.

This option is more suited for blocking birds out of a particular tree or set of trees, such as a tree above a car parking spot that birds keep leaving droppings on.

Electric shock tracks are another option for neighborhood birds in trees. There are shock tracks available that can be attached to tree branches which give birds a small electric jolt if they try to land. Like bird spikes, electric shock tracks do not actually hurt the birds, but do keep them away from trees.

These options work best if birds have not already nested and otherwise don't have a food source around. If birds have nested or have nearby food, you can also clear up those problems to reduce the bird infestation.

The first way to reduce a bird infestation is to remove bird food sources. Food sources vary depending on the species of the bird, but these can include bird feeders, open trash containers, and insect infestations. If you can remove these food sources, birds will have much less reason to hang around.

The next way to reduce the number of birds around is blocking off nesting grounds. You will need to find the places where birds are nesting, and then either wait for the birds to leave for the season, or call in a bird control company to see what they can do about the situation. For the majority of bird species in the United States, it is illegal to move a nest yourself.

Once you've located the bird nesting grounds and the birds have left, you can install bird netting over the location to block birds out from nesting again next season. Most nesting grounds are covered locations that provide birds protection from the elements. These locations are usually simple to block off with bird netting. If installed properly, bird netting blocks out birds with 100% effectiveness.

By removing bird food sources and bird nesting grounds, your overall bird problem will be greatly reduced!
